City Mayor Jerry Treñas yesterday said Cebu Pacific is now contemplating of having flights from Iloilo to Hongkong and vice versa. The plan is part of the campaign to boost the tourism industry in the city and island-province of Guimaras.
Treñas did not release the full details of the supposed plan as the airline is still on the verge of making their business plan for future international flights to Iloilo through the Iloilo airport of international standards in Cabatuan-Sta. Barbara area.
Nevertheless, Treñas said the Cebu Pacific would have a direct flight from Iloilo to Davao vice versa. The flight will start in May 2008. The launching of new flights is a product of the efforts of the Iloilo Convention and Visitors Bureau, city government and the provincial government of Guimaras.

I see cargo flights, but I dont see international passenger flights coming any soon. I dont see the commerce/tourism that Iloilo has to support a such unlike Cebu and Manila. Perhaps maybe those that may want to bypass Cebu and Manila to go to Boracay but its relatively far. Again, I keep on hearing people call it "Iloilo International Airport" but people are overlooking the fact that its just an airport with "International Standards" Those are two totally different meanings. To me, I just felt that they could've made a smaller terminal and save some and use it elsewhere. Same thing probably goes with Silay (although I haven't necessarily seen pictures of it).

excuse me are you under estimating iloilo airport? for your information iloilo airport recently has been upgraded from trunk line airport to alternate international airport by the DOTC. so it's means it can now cater to international flights coz it coforms with international standards passed by ICAO..... so pls don say that iloilo is not fit to accept international flights! your lame! in your face!

Perhaps I meant to say that I dont see passenger flights coming in the near future, eventually they will have one. I'd just rather have them expand domestically. Davao is a step in the right direction. I think one of the three has to step in and make Iloilo Airport a hub. Then we will see it become trully and International Airport, but for now to me its just Iloilo Airport with International Standards.

It would be great to see Iloilo finally get international flights, Cebu Pacific to HKG would be great cuz Cebu have there package holidays for Disney HKG, would be nice to do that direct from Iloilo.... would be even better if european airlines could run routes there so i wouldn't have to go through Manila anymore but I think that would be a long long way off.
One problem with International Flights I noticed when I was there last month however is there is no place set up for Immigration for arriving and departing tourists, which is something that would be required if they had people coming in direct from another country.
I couldn't even see any space for where they could set it up?
Had anyone thought about this facility when it was built? Is there some plan in place for this if (and hopefully when) international flights start?
