Iloilo mayor says good info ingredients vital to socio-economic development

Iloilo City (2 December) -- City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the necessary knowledge on public affairs, the concept of national loyalty and patriotism and empathy for fellow citizens must be communicated so people will take active role in the development of the economy.
Mayor Mabilog urged the government information officers who attended the PIA-Regional Year-End Conference for Information Officers, to communicate the whole set of attitudes, understanding and skills appropriate to socio-economic development and social change to people.
He also said that only a disciplined and inspired citizenry could take part in the government's developmental undertakings, that is why he is pushing programs of good governance "for the benefit of everyone".
Citing the discipline he instilled in the city, Mabilog stressed that he is proud to report "that because of discipline and unity of purpose, Iloilo City has been cited by the Institute for Solidarity in Asia for excellence in governance and not only that, Iloilo City is the first City in the country to be recognized into the Palladium Hall of Fame.
Citing other international awards garnered by Iloilo City, Mayor Mabilog emphasized that "we earned these distinction because of information, and constant communication with our people and political will".
The gathering of information officers from various national, provincial and local government offices in Western Visayas was graced by Atty. Jose A. Fabia, Director General of the Philippine Information Agency and Deputy Director General Mr. Virgilio Galvez. (PIA6)
