Barangays to hold Assembly Day on December 11
Manila (10 December) -- All the 42,000 barangays in the country will be holding the first synchronized assembly under the administration of President Benigno S. Aquino III this Saturday, December 11.
A DILG press release said that the assembly was supposed to be done last October 16 yet, but because of the Barangay Elections, it was postponed to December 11.
The same release said the assembly will be highlighted, for the first time, by the recitation of "Panunumpa Para sa Mabuting Pamamahala Tungo sa tuwid na Landas " by the barangay officials before their constituents.
DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo said the recitation is an expression of the barangay officials' commitment to uphold the principles of good governance, namely, responsiveness, transparency, accountability and participation at the barangay level.
The pledge partly reads: "... na itataguyod at isasakatuparan ang pamamahalang matuwid, malinis, hayag, at nagbibigay puwang sa lahat ng mamamayan na makilahok sa pagpapaunlad ng barangay."
In his directive to local executives, Robredo said barangay officials should discuss the guideposts in sustaining and promoting good governance, particularly on transparency of barangay financial records.
He added that they should also present the current state of development and financial status of the barangay.
The conduct of the barangay assembly is in accordance with Proclamation No. 74 issued by the Office of the President.
The DILG-6 has already deployed its people and had issued directives in connection with the conduct of the assembly. (DILG/PIA6/ESS)
