Feature: PRO 6 best non-commissioned police officer also best info officer
Iloilo City (3 December) -- Police Officer 3 Francisco Lindero III has received various awards and commendations as a student and for his job but he said the one closest to his heart is the "Best Performing Information Officer Award" given to him on Thursday, December 1, 2010.
Lindero, the Informtion Officer of Police Regional Office 6 is one of the four recipients from the provinces of Iloilo and Guimaras of this year's "Best Performing Information Officer Award" given by the regional office of the Philippine Information Agency in Western Visayas.
The award intends to recognize Best Performing Information Officers for their extraordinary accomplishments and contribution to government information work in their respective agencies and local government units bearing implications to national thrusts in general, among others.
Lindero is currently the President of the Association of Government Information Officers in Iloilo who, under his leadership tries to give priority to the enhancement of skills and competencies of his members through the various trainings conducted by the organization in coordination with PIA.
"I was not expecting to be chosen and I am deeply honored for this award. Information work is another avenue for me to grow in another aspect of police work. I am happy that our initiatives were also recognized," said Lindero, PRO 6 Best Police-Non Commissioned Officer for Administration Awardee in 2008.
Lindero was instrumental for the replication of Talakayan sa Isyung Police, a cable television program in cooperation with the Central Philippine University. He was also cited for the preparation and publication of his news releases in local dailies and some national broadsheets.
Other awardees are Department of Social Welfare and Development Officer Information officer May Rago Castillo, Department of Agrarian Reform Information Officer Ramona Gonzaga and Guimaras Provincial Information Officer Leny Gabo-Fible.
Castillo started in DSWD as a writer for its World-Bank funded project KALAHI-CIDDS in 2004 and the following year, appointed as Information Officer II. She was also instrumental in production of two booklets titled, "Social Integration of Indigenous Groups in the Society, a documentation of DSWDs interventions for Indigenous People in Western Visayas and "Pagbana-ag, a compilation of experience of the Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines in Western Visayas.
She has also initiated various information and advocacy activities/events in support of the programs and projects of DSWD.
"When I received the award, I felt like I am a graduating student finally getting the diploma. I silently told myself, this is for God, whom I always thought is the one I'm serving; for my family and my supportive supervisors and colleagues. The feeling was that the trophy and certificate symbolized the hard work, the beyond-office-hours duty and the sacrifices of choosing work instead of being at home with my three-year old kid," said Castillo.
Gonzaga has been with the DAR 6 Information and Education Division since year 2000. She was also President of the AGIO-Iloilo from 2008-2009.
Gonzaga said her life as an Information Officer of DAR is full of transforming and challenging experiences considering the Department is implementing CARP, a social justice program which is relatively an unpopular program.
Gonzaga spearheaded various information and education activities geared towards their clientele's understanding and realization that the agrarian reform program is for them.
To Fible, who was not able to attend the awarding ceremony, the award is a good motivation for them to be efficient in their work as well as to be an effective tool in providing information.
"It is really fulfilling that our endeavors were appreciated not only for the sake of an award but our responsibilities in helping mold the community which is very crucial," said Fible.
She cited that the most memorable time in her job was when the largest oil spill incident in the country devastated her province. Tasked to manage the Infocenter 24/7 with only limited facilities, she was up most of the time to entertain calls, queries, interviews, and fieldworks.
"Though that was the toughest experience I ever had, that became my best challenge in testing my capabilities and efficiency", said Fible.
Fible is also thankful for the support of Governor Felipe Nava to all their efforts and who is very appreciative of their inputs.
The awardees received their trophy and certificates of recognition in a ceremony held in Iloilo City and was graced by PIA Director General Atty. Jose Fabia. (PIA/LAFrench)
